Mastering Rack

Audiocube’s Mastering Rack processes every channel - except the browser Preview - through a single, fixed-order signal chain, giving you definitive control over the final mix.
Opening the Mastering Rack
To open the mastering rack :
Open the mixer window (press TAB or use the top-bar button)
Locate the Master Channel.
Click any of the four module buttons (Color, Reverb, Compressor, EQ) to reveal its detailed control panel.
Signal Flow (Fixed Order)
# | Module | Role in the Chain |
---|---|---|
1 | Color | Adds harmonic drive (overdrive), width (triple-chorus) and motion (flanger) for warmth and character. |
2 | Reverb | Places the entire mix in a configurable acoustic space—from tight rooms to vast halls. |
3 | Mastering Compressor | LA-2A / 1176-inspired dynamics unit that evens peaks and adds punch. |
4 | Mastering EQ | Five-band parametric equaliser for the final tonal balance. |

Quick-Tweak Checklist
Goal | Try This First |
---|---|
Warm up a sterile mix | Raise Color Drive 1–2 dB, add subtle Chorus Depth. |
Glue the dynamics | Set Compressor Ratio 4:1, adjust Threshold until 2–4 dB gain-reduction on peaks. |
Brighten without harshness | Use the EQ high-shelf at 8 kHz (+1 to +2 dB, Q≈0.7). |
Create front-to-back depth | Lower Reverb Pre-Delay (<20 ms) and blend to taste with Wet Mix. |
Best Practices
Mix into the rack early - small adjustments upstream translate better than drastic changes later.
Keep the Color module subtle; excessive modulation can blur transient detail.
Use the Reverb’s high-cut to tame brightness if the mix starts to sound “washy.”
A/B toggle the Compressor frequently to avoid over-squashing the mix’s energy.
Save a Preset of the Mastering Rack per project to recall your finishing chain instantly.
Master the Mastering Rack, and your Audiocube projects will leave the speakers polished, cohesive, and release-ready.
